THE PROBLEM
Structured Document Authoring within Life Sciences is found within and across almost all functions, such as Commercial Brochures, Manufacturing Manuals, Research Lab Notebooks, Adverse Events Reporting and Regulatory Affairs Dossiers. The ‘reusable’ content pulled into documents, via the tools, takes the form of references, paragraphs, charts/figures, tables, mathematical equations, etc.
Typically, Structured Authoring tools have focused on limiting the content reuse capability to the authoring platform provided by the tool itself. This may work well for manuscript style documents or documents with complex styling applied after the fact, but for the author who wants to develop more graphical content, such as a PowerPoint presentation or website, manuscript style authoring poses a major limitation.
OUR SOLUTION
Entitech Solutions solved the problem by working with a leading structured authoring software to enable authors to use a PowerPoint add-on for access to the full library of all components and component metadata available in their rich component repository.
Solution includes:
- Authors’ ability to log in into the component authoring tool directly from PowerPoint, via a PowerPoint add-in.
- Drag and drop capability to preview components and pull them in quickly from the right-hand panel directly into slides, as they would from any other application.
- Versioning visibility since new PowerPoint documents have references back to all components contained within the presentation.
- Change management by alerting authors to component modifications within the PowerPoint presentation since the document was last saved, quickly viewed in a “side by side” view.
THE RESULTS
- Time Savings: Authors have time savings via
- the benefit of leveraging their content directly from PowerPoint.
- elimination of requirement to work with graphics and designers to ‘redo’ efforts via complex manuscript publishing tools.
- ease of finding and reusing already written, designed, and approved content.
- Extensibility: Easily customizable with the use of ‘add-ins’ to other graphical design tools
